OUR VISION

Energy Sovereignty for Every Tribal Community

Tribal Energy Alternatives is a new chapter in GRID Alternatives’ long-standing commitment to Indian Country. As a Tribal-led affiliate, we bring deep cultural understanding and trusted relationships to support Tribal Nations in building clean energy solutions on their own terms. Our programs span six core pillars—grants, workforce & education, construction, policy, California, and federal programs—all designed to meet tribes where they are and grow opportunities from within.

SUPPORTING FUTURE GENERATIONS

How It Works

Federally-funded programs focused on expanding renewable energy benefits and opportunities to tribal communities, entrepreneurs, and tribally-owned businesses. The Federal Programs functions as a cross-section between all GRID’s Tribal Programs impacting Tribes through our workforce development, grantmaking, project management, financing, construction, and philanthropy and development.

We want to highlight the resilience, strength and innovative solutions surrounding energy sovereignty in Indian country. Our communications team creates content that highlights all of our programs and opportunities.

Outreach and Engagement supports, empowers, and amplifies the National Tribal Program clients, tribal partners, and projects using meaningful engagement and consensus outreach planning and implementation to ensure sustainable and long lasting impacts. We implement outreach best practices and strategies in the solar project development timeline to provide an equitable opportunity for the community, individuals, and/or groups to have a role in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of outreach activities.

California Tribal energy work at GRID partners with tribes to develop diverse renewable energy projects, collaborate with CA state energy programs and state utility companies to create space for tribal voices, establish energy strategies and priorities, and collaborate with one another on funding opportunities.

In collaboration with Tribal Partners, we recruit local job trainees from the tribes we work with to gain skills and industry experience in the renewable energy projects taking place in their own community.
