About Us

In early 2025, the HQ National Tribal Program and the Tribal Solar Accelerator Fund  joined forces to create the first Tribal-led GRID Alternatives affiliate office now known as Tribal Energy Alternatives Inc. TEA was created to accelerate tribal energy sovereignty across Indian Country through grant funding, workforce development, project construction, and policy advocacy. An affiliate office is a semi-independent branch of GRID, operating in alignment with the parent brand and mission while having its own and managing its local operations, fundraising, staffing, and community engagement. It blends the national organization’s strength with the flexibility and insight of a community-based office.

Tribal Energy Alternatives Inc. empowers Tribal-led solutions in the clean energy transition. By combining deep cultural competency with technical expertise, we provide accessible funding, training, project development, and policy advocacy to support tribal energy sovereignty and build community power across Indian Country.

Our mission is to support Tribal Nations build community- powered solutions to advance economic and environmental justice through sustainable energy.

Our vision is a balanced transition to energy sovereignty for Tribal Nations grounded in Traditional values for future generations.

TEA Values

EMPOWERMENT

Uplifting Tribal Sovereignty and Indigenous worldviews. Tribal Sovereignty is the authority to establish our own governments, the ability to exercise our treaty rights, determine membership requirements, enact legislation, and establish law enforcement, court systems, and infrastructure.

GENEROSITY

Generosity means contributing to the well-being of one’s people and all life by sharing and giving freely. Sharing is not just about objects and possessions but emotions like sympathy, compassion, and kindness. It also means to be generous with one’s time. The act of giving and not looking for anything in return can make you a better person and make you happy.

CONSERVATION

The worldview is deep and intense and infused with spiritual meaning. Everything in Native American culture ties into their belief system and their love for land and people. With the collective support of family and community comes the sense of satisfaction and belonging that defines happiness.

COMMUNITY

Native American communities understand the importance and interconnection of all creation; people, animals, and grandmother earth.

HUMILITY

We are no more no less than all that lives, we honor the beauty, imperfections, brilliance and humanness as a common man (human).
